Not as far from home as they hoped, but no matter
The stated aim of Lahs was to gaze outward from Allah Las’ base of Los Angeles, which they had profitably mined on three fine previous albums. Measured by that intention, Lahs must be considered something of a dud. It could not have come from anywhere but LA, clearly being a record by native speakers of the dialect of The Doors, The Byrds and Love. But even if Lahs isn’t quite the album Allah-Las believed they were making, it’s still a minor marvel. There’s a glorious stoned languor to “Spaced” and “Polar Onion”, and “Prazer Em Te Conhecer” is Bakersfield
