Pro-Ject Stream Box S2 Ultra

Editor: All of us at Sumiko would like to thank John Atkinson for his comprehensive review of the Pro-Ject Stream Box S2 Ultra. This is a tricky product to grasp at first, since it’s neither a DAC nor a server. Rather, it is a device that adds network and streaming capabilities to a modern audio system. We call it an “Audiophile Network Endpoint” and are delighted that JA was able to explore its full range of capabilities.

Since this is an Internet-connected device, we’re constantly working on ways to make it better and releasing those improvements as firmware upgrades for units already in the field. Our last firmware update (1.029), which arrived just after the completion of JA’s review, added official Roon Ready certification, support for the Qobuz lossless high-resolution streaming service, and a host of additional upgrades that improve the handling of large offline music libraries.
