There are encouraging signs around the shoot. I have seen a fair few partridges with broods of chicks, probably more than last year. I saw one grey partridge with 14 chicks. She’s down to nine now, which isn’t bad going. She started to lose chicks after the harvest but hopefully she will continue to add to the breeding stock. It’s fantastic to see them.

The bulk of my birds are now in the woods, though there have been some delays because of the wet weather. I have bought my birds from Manor Farm Game in Staffordshire and they seem to be the best
