Disillusion

When Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howe returned to work in the summer of 1990, at Miraval studios in the South of France, some momentum had clearly been lost.

Anderson’s insistence on calling the shots was causing the same frictions it had in the past, but he argues that he was actually keen to compromise and let them contribute more to the writing stage of the process.

“I just wanted to do a similar kind of work [to the first album] together, more closely knit. So I said, ‘OK, we’ll just try some ideas.’ I let them get more involved in the direction, saying to myself, ‘Well I don’t want to cramp their style, I just want to let them do it.’ But we really didn’t get very far.”
