Between Blood And Ocean, the new solo record from Bent Knee’s frontwoman Courtney Swain, was written during an artist’s residency during a typically cold and dark New England winter on Martha’s Vineyard. This deeply personal release – “The solo stuff is so raw to me,” says Swain – explores her mixed Japanese and American heritage and the fear of not finding her place in the world. But music remains a source of joy for the singer. “I’m trying to keep the project very fun and very nurturing,” she says.
