Psyched & Sound
As fans of psychedelia are compelled to contend, nothing is ever quite as it seems. But despite Rosalie Cunningham’s oft-stated familiarity with altered states of consciousness, the task of crowdfunding her debut solo album and releasing it to an expectant fanbase still ended up being a reality-shattering experience. Originally planned for release via PledgeMusic earlier this year, Cunningham’s first new music since Purson split in 2017 got drawn into the punter-driven company’s very public disintegration, wherein the money ran out, taking Pledge with it, leaving thousands out of pocket and numerous artists like Cunningham wondering what the hell was going on.
“It was a massive pain in the arse but it’s turned out to be a kind of blessing in disguise, because it’s ended up with me signing with Esoteric and Cherry Red and that’s with a grin. “I really like the guys there and it’s a brilliant deal. So in the long term it’s worked out for the best, but it did push the album back a few months, which was annoying. Everyone’s been waiting for quite a long time, myself included. of people haven’t got their money back, which is really harsh.”
