BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME

VENUE ELECTRIC BALLROOM, LONDON

DATE 10/10/2019

Between The Buried And Me’s near-twodecade career has seen a series of step-ups that have transformed the North Carolina quintet from misunderstood music nerds with their roots in death metal to pristine prog innovators. First with their third album, 2007’s, and then their heralded 2012 release, , pushed BTBAM into thrilling unexplored spaces where gorgeous radio-friendly choruses meet swing cabaret weirdness for a psycho-circus of prog metal. But if you saw them supporting TesseracT last year, their lacklustre set would tell another tale. Tired and incoherent, it felt like they couldn’t be bothered. Tonight however, with the opportunity to do what they do best – selfindulgence – this two-set show is a triumph.
