A SPIRITUAL AWAKENING

“Alcest is about striking a balance between having one foot in the real world and the other in a spiritual dimension,” explains Alcest’s enigmatic frontman Neige, that band having released their most personal album yet, Spiritual Instinct.

Inspired by the singer and multi-instrumentalist’s unusual pre-existence reflections, the French two-piece’s unique shoegazing post-metal journey explores notions of realism and symbolism, wrapped in a compelling realm of emotion. The results are bathed in light and unearthly tones.

“When I was a child, I had a spiritual experience,” he recalls. “I had memories of the place where I was before being here. Images of a luminous place that resembled a kind of paradise would flash in my mind at random times, like when I was on my way to school. It was like something you might see in a film:
