Perhaps it’s naïve to believe that the assembled world leaders and corporate chiefs, like ours, is riven by prejudice and hate, and the vindictiveness and rivalries of politicians are about to precipitate global war. Chaplin shows that horror from the ground up–from the terror and violence in the Jewish ghetto, to the tyrant Hynkel, leader of Tomainia, callously deciding the fate of citizens on a whim, behind a desk in his gilded palace.
