Q Two friends have sent young dogs to different trainers. Both have come back knowing their job but appear to be more like machines and neither owner feels they have a real bond with their dogs. I want a close bond with my dog so am going to train him myself. Advice for a beginner?

A There are plenty of excellent trainers who do a great job with young dogs. But it isn’t unusual to hear of the experience of your friends.
