NOTES ON A SMALL ISLAND

In 1996, I was invited to join friends for a week’s driven shooting in the Scottish Moorfoot Hills. Having read of this kind of shooting, I leapt at the prospect – grouse, partridges, and pheasants in a lovely October setting. Fascinating is not too strong a word to describe this experience – a wonderful week, everything new, exciting and challenging – staying in the home of the estate’s owners, excellent fellowship, food, and drink…all of us meeting many welcoming Scots.

Since that trip, family and American and British friends have joined us on perhaps 40 visits at some 30 shoots in Ireland, England and Scotland.
