Far from the grand moors of Yorkshire and Angus, the Glorious Twelfth stirs some dearly held memories for me. While all the sporting world is glued to the ups and downs of red grouse at this time of year, I can’t resist quietly wending my way back 10 years to my first encounter with walked-up ptarmigan shooting in the hills of Wester Ross. I was brought up around red grouse on the family farm, and black grouse were a burning point of focus
