has managed to whip up a proper barnstormer with focuses on a clan cut off from a mainland Britain devastated by plague. The Skye folk are getting on with their lives, though: young Jaime is about to be married off to a nine-yearold girl from a neighbouring clan (they liked ’em young in the old days) and Agatha, who seems to have Down’s syndrome, proudly acts as a lookout for her people (she’s the hawk of the title). Unfortunately, however, on the day of Jaime’s wedding their island is attacked, and he and Agatha must embark on a hazardous trip across Scotland on a rescue mission.
