Romantic Stays
1 Western Cape La Cotte Guest House
Franschhoek
The French have always been good at romance, so it’s not surprising that Franschhoek, the ‘French corner’ of the Cape, is a popular escape for lovers. Situated on one of the oldest Huguenot estates in the area, a short walk from the classy restaurants, boutiques and galleries in town, the newly opened La Cotte Guest House epitomises charm and sophistication. Surrounded by vineyards, the eight guest rooms either open on to a swimming pool or the magnificently landscaped indigenous gardens, and are individually decorated in chic fabrics and artworks. All have large, comfortable beds, walk-in showers big enough for two, stand-alone bath tubs, and outside terraces on which to sip sundowners as you take in the view of the mountains. If privacy is what you’re after (or if you want to share your retreat with another couple), book the ultra-luxurious, two-bedroom Pool Cottage. It has a spacious lounge and small kitchen, but best of all is the expansive veranda for al fresco dining and lounging while enjoying the magical Winelands’ setting.– Shaen Adey lacottefarm.com
