We arrived at Firefly as the sun dipped behind the Cornish hills. Silence abounded as we settled into our home for the weekend: a ‘woodcutter’s hut’ tucked away in a small hamlet near Mawgan Porth. Despite being part of a trio of properties on a generous plot, you’re not short of privacy. The evergreen ‘red robin’ that encircles Firefly’s small garden makes it a perfect hideaway for a romantic weekend – which is why we were there.

Matchbox in size and faultless in form, the owners have gone to great lengths to ensure this self-catered property epitomises ‘rustic-luxe’. Think exposed wood, vintage books, crochet wool rugs, fur throws and a homely AGA tucked into a kitchen with hanging herbs and artisanal ceramic mugs.
