On the right track?

I note from Jack Bancroft’s reply to a reader’s query about trackers (issue 222, p13) that an article about tracking devices is possibly in the pipeline.

I own a Ford Transit-based motorhome, in which I have decided to fit a few security devices. One of these was an XCSource GPS tracker, which I bought for £15.99 from Amazon.

You need a 2G simcard to work this device, which I purchased from GiffGaff for £2 and set up on a pay-as-you-go account; this cost £10 to start.

To install the device, you connect it to a 12V power supply and hide it inside the motorhome. It will work on 9V, so if it’s a long way from the battery, voltage drop shouldn’t be a problem.
