Way to go
We took Brittany Ferries’ (www.brittanyferries.co.uk) Portsmouth-Caen crossing; it’s just short of six hours, so we treated ourselves to a cabin. The Mont St Michel, which we sailed on in both directions, has lots of good restaurants and shops.
From Ouistreham, where the ferry docks, we headed south-west on the A84, before picking up the N175, then joining the A84 again towards Rennes.
