A shot in the dark

I’m not good at keeping things short, but I’ll try my best.

Ten years ago, after receiving my first decent pay cheque, I was standing in front of a 40-inch plasma TV with a salesman’s voice ringing in my ears, when I made a decision: My house won’t be like my parents’, with everyone spending copious amounts of precious time glued to the screen.

Don’t get me wrong, I love tech. In fact, I do CNC programming for a living. But it was on that day that my love-hate relationship with tech gadgets began.

I do own a television today – a 15-year-old LG Flatron, and a DVD player. I don’t have DSTV or Netflix, or even a bunny-ears aerial. We watch DVDs, which in today’s age feels quite archaic.
