JOYFUL PHILANTHROPY
To illustrate their family mission that life’s purpose is found in serving others, Julie Fisher Cummings and her daughter, Caroline Cummings Rafferty, prioritize helping those in need. With parents and grandparents like the late Palm Beach-Detroit philanthropists Max and Marjorie Fisher, it’s no surprise that both Cummings and Rafferty started their lives devoted to service.
“I grew up with philanthropy in my DNA,” says Cummings, co-founder of the Promise Fund of Florida and a leader in many other charitable and educational programs in Florida and around the U.S. “At age 4, we collected for CARE, the global humanitarian foundation. For my sixth birthday, we sent a less fortunate child to camp.”
Rafferty, an interior designer and co-owner with Cummings of The Grand Tour boutique in Palm Beach, shares similar memories. “All of my parties were charity-related, including my birthdays, which were canned food drives,” she says. “My grandfather did
