OPENING THE HURT LOCKER
Sweaty palms, our heart pounding through our chest, and more swears muttered in the last five minutes than heard in an average Channel 5 documentary about Brexit – Call Of Duty is back, and we’re playing it. While it feels like the Modern Warfare of old, the one that changed preconceptions of what a multiplayer shooter should be, there are enough new ideas here to ensure this soft reboot has its own personality.
After spending time huddled in the corner of a burnt-out room, twitchily scanning our gun sight between two doorways, our Modern Warfare muscle memory is kicking in. This is how we remember playing online in 2007. It should be no surprise the feel of this reheated Call Of Duty is so effective, as some of the key members of the team which made that classic game are back behind the iron sights.
