In cricket, Australia is where high expectations go to die.
Now and again – once a decade, at most – a tour of Australia isn’t doomed from the outset. Last summer, for instance, India encountered an Australian team stripped of their two best batsmen and battered into un-Australian timidity by the tsunami of condemnation and contempt unleashed by the “Sandpapergate” ball-tampering scandal. India won the series 2-1.
