A bird in the pond

I was recently sitting in my garden (I’m based in Switzerland) when I noticed some red kites approaching. I retrieved my D750 and fitted my 300mm PF lens, set the camera for birds in flight and waited… To my disappointment the kites veered off to somewhere apparently more interesting. However, almost at the same moment this grey heron appeared over my next door neighbour’s pond.

Not the picture I was expecting to take, but nevertheless quite pleasing, the moral of the story: be prepared!
