I HATED THAT WORD. I used it in a self-deprecating “sorry to be a needy friend” type of way all the time. It resurrected memories of being labeled emotionally I associated my need for comfort with being a clingy pest. When years of unresolved pain drove me to counseling, I had to face the side of me that felt extremely needy, because I’d been hurt.
