THE FACIAL The “vampire”
WHAT IT IS Also known as collagen induction therapy or platelet-rich plasma (PRP), the “vampire” facial uses your own plasma to help heal and regenerate damaged or weakened skin. A small amount of blood is taken from your arm, spun in a centrifuge to separate platelets from the other components, then reinjected back into your skin through micro-needling.
WHAT IT FELT The blood-taking is no more painful than a blood test, while the platelet separation was like observing an intriguing science experiment. Next came the micro-needling, which creates teeny “channels” for the platelets to penetrate deep into the skin. This involved my platelet-rich plasma being applied to my skin in sections, then micro-needled into my pores. It felt scratchy but not painful. Kelly George, of Kelly George Aesthetics, also needled platelets into my under-eyes – probably the most uncomfortable part of all. I bruised slightly on one eye, probably due to my daily intake of fish oil (cut it out a week before your treatment to avoid bruising).
