Jeffrey Beuter From Columbus, Ohio, Asks …Can a GM Gen V LT Small-Block Front Accessory Drive Be Used on an Earlier LS Engine if Power Steering Isn’t Needed?

Q: I will be buying a GM LS376 crate engine, but don’t want power steering. Can the serpentine accessory drive for the new LT-series engines—with electric power steering that has no need for a pump drive—be retrofitted to the LS engine? I’m assuming the LT accessory system has a separate belt for the A/C compressor (which I’d like on my engine). Part numbers would be very much appreciated. My engine will go into a 1936 Buick I’m building for cruising and autocrossing.

 Unfortunately, the new GM LT (Gen V small-block) factory drives don’t fit earlier LS engines. Gen V
