This month we will be focusing on a variety of techniques to infuse your blues playing with better control over dynamics. We guitarists have all been guilty of the old adage: “Dynamics? I’m playing as loud as I can already!” So it’s timely to remind ourselves of the importance of this extremely expressive dimension of performing music.

First we will think of dynamics in terms of controlling the volume of the notes coming out of the guitar. To maximise the
