TROPICAL TREATS

THE Cairns region is best known as a gateway to the Great Barrier Reef with its spectacular corals and fish life. The region is also home to World Heritage listed tropical rainforests. Barron Gorge NP stands quietly hidden in the tropical rainforest that ranges up behind Cairns. The area is steeped in history with early explorers and gold prospectors pioneering tracks from the coastal fringe to the productive tablelands and goldfields that lay beyond. The remnants of these tracks, along with the remains of the railway camps established for the construction of the Kuranda railway, are the foundations for the park’s tracks.
