BREAKFAST
Oats with chia seeds
Serves: 1
Preparation time: 5 minutes, plus resting time
Instant oats are a breakfast staple on a multiday hike. This easy recipe can be prepared the night before so you can have an early start the next day.
You need
• 125 ml instant oats
• 15 ml chia seeds
• 125 ml black rooibos tea, sweetened to taste (or apple juice)
• 50 – 100 g trail mix with dried fruit, nuts and seeds
• 1 naartjie, banana or apple (optional)
• honey, to taste
Here’s how
1 Add the oats and chia seeds to a mug and pour over the tea or juice. Leave to stand overnight using your tin plate as a lid for the mug.
2 The next morning, add trail mix and sliced fruit to the oats and sweeten with honey.
