SPIN CLASS
About twenty or so years ago I was a very reluctant convert to using spinner baits. These awkward looking whirligigs looked like a clumsy mess designed by a six year old, and while they clearly caught American large mouthed bass, I saw absolutely no place for them in my lure arsenal. At that time the Hinze Dam, near my home on the Gold Coast, overflowed, releasing tens of thousands of bass into the Nerang River. My mate Doug Burt took me to his local honey hole and proceeded to wipe me out using small yellow spinner baits catching 10 bass to my one. That unsettling session made me have to accept that these weird pieces of space junk were indeed effective, and I have been a convert since that day. I now own boxes and boxes of the things, and they tend to be my “go to” option for bass, Murray cod and saratoga.
