THE FUTURE IS LOOKING BRIGHT for women in STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths). Although only 16 per cent of people working in the notoriously male-dominated set of industries in Australia are women (and we make up just 13 per cent of STEM undergraduates), a new cohort of visionaries is on a mission to reboot the system. Whether reinventing health technologies or implementing strategies to hire more women in senior leadership, they’re closing the gender gap and changing the conversation. This matters: as we look to the future, the gender balance in STEM roles goes beyond what’s fair for female employees – to build a brave new world that serves everyone, we need more diversity.
