Not Just a Pretty Place

Seochon, or West Village in English, is one of ‘A Hundred Cities Within Seoul’, the title of a 2015 article on the cultural dynamics of the bustling metropolis. A stone’s throw from the historic Gyeongbokgung Palace, the country’s number one tourist destination, the area is houses, all against the majestic mountain backdrop of Inwangsan. These days, a growing number of artists, designers and architects populate Seochon, myself included; for almost two decades I’ve also called this neighbourhood home.
