SPECTACULAR SIGNPOSTS

Scrapes made by whitetail bucks are an exciting sight for deer hunters for several reasons. For one, most scrapes are made by mature, dominant bucks. Two, the maker sometimes returns to check his scrapes. And three, a dominant buck’s scrapes serve as social centers of deer activity.

Knowing how, where, when and why scrapes are made won’t guarantee you hunting success, but could help put you in the right place at the right time. Unfortunately, I doubt if any other deer hunting related subject has been more abused by the popular press.
