From the premiere episode onward, Sol Star (John Hawkes) has played a major role in the community of Deadwood. He’s been a loyal friend and business partner of Seth Bullock (Timothy Olyphant), the lawman turned merchant who reluctantly returned to law enforcement in order to protect and serve the lawless Black Hills mining camp. And as that camp gradually became more civilized while evolving into a township, Star continued to stand by Bullock during the latter’s occasional clashes with Al Swearengen (Ian McShane), the robustly corrupt operator of Deadwood’s most popular saloon and bordello — and, not incidentally, the often brutally manipulative employer of Trixie (Paula Malcomson), an ambitious prostitute who strives to rise above her humble station with a little tutoring from Star.
Nearly 13 years after ended its three-year run on HBO, the premium cable network is ready to unveil a long-promised, often-delayed movie that will pick up several plot threads left dangling when the critically acclaimed, cult-favorite drama was canceled.
