THE OPEN RANGE
TEXAS JACK
Frustrated by the price of quality cowboy boots, Texan Paul Hedrick decided to cut out the middleman. In 2015, he founded a line of his own to sell direct to consumers, introducing handmade boots with quality leathers, understated style, and affordable price points. Business has been booming ever since. The Tecovas brand has been so successful, in fact, that it’s now branching out into belts, travel bags, and other small leather goods. Our favorite addition is the bootjack. Handcrafted from solid beechwood, it’s coated with urethane for water resistance and lined with calfskin leather padding to avoid scratches on your boots ($95). tecovas.com
BARREL BEAUTIES
Jewelry artist Kim Klass has introduced a new inspirational design to her cowgirl collection with hidden meaning for barrel racers. “The pattern can be interpreted in different ways,” she says. “Some people just see a pretty cross with a positive quote, but the design also represents the pattern a barrel racer takes their horse in competition.” Klass herself was a cutting competitor, but living in Wickenburg, Arizona, she’s befriended many of the rodeo women who “seem to love the speed.” She even got one of them to weigh in on the finishing touches. “One of my great barrel racing friends and jewelry lover helped me choose the appropriate words to go with the pendant designs,” she says.
