GOLF WAS PART OF LIFE from an early age for Karrie Webb growing up in the sugarcane town of Ayr, an hour’s drive south of Townsville. Her parents Rob and Evelyn Webb were avid golfers, as were her grandparents Mick and Joyce Collinson. They began a family ritual when Karrie was just four years old, taking her along to the golf course each weekend while they played nine holes.
“My grandparents started picking me up at seven o’clock on Sunday mornings,” recalls the 44-year-old champion golfer. “I just had plastic clubs at the time but that got me hooked. For my eighth birthday they promised me a real set of golf clubs so that’s when I officially started.”
