IN AUSTRALIA, cherries are the unchallenged symbolic fruit of Christmas, so much so that I reckon it’s about time we changed our traditional greeting to ‘Cherry Christmas!’ Granted, other stone fruit lobbies might have a problem with this and, although ‘Have a Peachy Chrissie’ does have some merit, it doesn’t quite cut the mustard (well played condiment lobby, btw!).
