The concept of renting out your personal assets for cash is not a new one — but it’s taking the RV world by storm.
You can trace it most famously back to the advent of Airbnb in 2007, when two US college buddies came up with the bright idea of offering their loft to others as a B&B-style accommodation complete with breakfast and wifi. Now it’s worth more than $45 billion, is set to go public next year and is used by hundreds of thousands of people each day around the world.
For RV owners, the concept is the same — renting out your caravan, camper trailer or motorhome when you are not using it to strangers looking for a holiday.
Over the last few years platforms including Camplify, SHAREaCAMPER, MyCaravan and Outdoorsy in Australia and Mighway in New Zealand have popped up to offer the opportunity to make money and offset your RV’s purchase price, pay off your finance loan or perhaps simply afford to travel more yourself.
