Bob Pattison and Kathy Cooper have been avid caravanners for many years. The married couple from Cooroy in Queensland’s Sunshine Coast have travelled far and wide and both done the almost obligatory Big Lap of Australia. But until relatively recently, they hadn’t travelled together.

Bob, 75, and Kathy, 72, were both widowed and, finding a kindred spirit with a sense of adventure in one another, married in 2016.

“I have had a caravan since I was 24, so for 50 years,” says Pattison. “That was something I really missed when my wife passed away. It’s just not the same when you are on your own. You can’t talk about the sunsets with anyone.

“Kathy and I knew each other but she didn’t know I was a caravanner and I found out she had gone around Australia with her husband in a caravan in 1986!”

The pair soon began travelling with Pattison’s group of RV friends in his 5.3m (17ft 6in) Jayco Discovery pop-top caravan. When they decided
