Although Ceres lacks a permanent atmosphere, astronomers have detected an , a thin layer of water vapour enshrouding the asteroid. But the water signatures appear to (the transformation of solid ice to gas) as possible sources of the vapour. Any of these causes could be linked to the exosphere’s variability as well.
