ASTROPHYSICIST LUKE DAVIES has a problem. He helps lead a million-dollar international sky survey that aims to accurately and individually measure the light coming from millions of galaxies. But the universe is “really, really crowded, and many galaxies and stars overlap,” says Davies, who is based at the University of Western Australia node of the International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research (ICRAR). And there simply aren’t enough professional astronomers to figure out which light is coming from which galaxy.
