There’s nothing quite like curling up in an armchair, particularly when it’s with a good book or a glass of wine. “A fabulous armchair can be the focal point of a room, especially if it’s an interesting shape or covered in a gorgeous fabric,” says interior designer Marylou Sobel. “It can be used and loved for many years if it’s reupholstered a few times.”

Comfort takes top billing in the latest releases, says Jane Novembre, marketing manager at Domo. “We’re seeing curved shapes that enclose the sitter almost in an embrace with soft lines, low armrests and high, supportive backs.”

The armchair styles you can expect to see filtering through from Europe are compact and impactful, says Fanuli managing director Fabio Fanuli. “Smaller-profile lounge chairs and tailored designs that balance out the current trend for bigger
