November …in the moment

A moment to reflect

With one foot firmly in autumn, and a forward glance towards Christmas festivities, November brings with it a natural lull in proceedings to hunker down and revel in the cosy mid-season pause.

Shorter days and longer evenings offer ample opportunity to enjoy time within the home, be it spent lost in the depths of a classic novel on a window-seat perch or curled up by the fireside with a hot mug of something reviving.

Creating a warm welcome, too, is never more opportune, both in the literal and metaphorical sense. Candlelit settings and bonfires, for example, hold an irresistible appeal in this most atmospheric of months – as food writer and bakery owner Flora Shedden explains: “I really like the longer and darker nights. I enjoy those first really cold days, lots of slow-cooked dishes, and anything featuring quince and apples.” (.)
