ON THE WILD SIDE

In the strictest sense, there is no such thing as a ‘wildlife garden’, as practically all gardens are already alive with a rich variety of wildlife. Much of it is unseen – often microscopic – but is nonetheless vital for the health of the planet. By adapting the way you tend your garden, however, it is surprisingly easy to make your patch a haven for a rich variety of species. The trick isn’t to create a specialist type of garden; rather to encourage what is there already and tempt more species to move in.
