His intensely personal performance of Candle in the Wind at the funeral of Princess Diana in 1997 crumbled the reserve of many a stiff upper lip. And his songs are about to reach a whole new audience with the rerelease of The Lion King in July, with classics such as Can you Feel the Love Tonight
