In love with St Lucia
Best known as a honeymoon hotspot, the island is also perfect for a mother and daughter adventure, discovers Tanya Pearey.
Walking to the airport departure gate, it felt as if we were about to board an ark – everyone was in pairs because St Lucia is hugely popular with newlyweds. But arriving at our suite at the Marigot Bay Resort, in the north west of the island, my daughter Savannah and I were looking for a lively adventure break, packed with activities. Did we find it?
The answer is an emphatic yes, and we began by discovering that St Lucia’s beautifully rugged and mountainous landscape is perfect for walking – as long as you avoid the heat of the day and take plenty of water.
We tackled Marigot Bay’s Ridge Walk, a steady 45-minute uphill climb under tree cover, rewarded at the top by heady views overlooking the bay and resort – and, with the help of binoculars, the neighbouring island of Martinique to the north.
