kitchens need to look good while they work hard. So for this Nantucket, MA, home, interior decorator Thomas Jayne, created a quilt-look floor that can take a spill in style. His surprising inspiration: 18th-century Russian marquetry. “It’s a pinwheel design that works as camouflage,” Jayne says, noting that the deep-green paint will help conceal wear and tear on the bleached pine—and dog fur in a house with multiple rescues. “I like that the pattern is geometric but seems to move, and travels well around the room.”
