This large, rambling two-story home was designed by a prominent architect from Knoxville, TN, his house plans catalog. Thorvald and Ella Winter built the house around 1900, likely with help from Ella’s family, who owned a local construction company. The house changed hands a few times over the next 100 years. At one point it was reworked into a multiunit dwelling. Most recently the building was used as commercial office space. It has dodged the wrecking ball three times in recent years.
