    FRENCH gastronome and wine and food writer Andre Simon celebrated his 87th birthday on February 28, 1964, with a superb lunch at Perth’s Palace Hotel. He then boarded the ship for the voyage home to England. The lunch, his last meal in Australia, was arranged by Western Australia’s Wine and Food Society and was another meal which impressed him.
