A fading perennial leaves a bare spot
There are several perennials that take a well-deserved nap after they finish their show. You don’t want to banish them from your garden just because they leave a bare spot in your border.
Plants affected Here are three ephemeral perennials that flower, then go dormant for the rest of the season:
• Oriental poppy Papaver orientale
• Old-fashioned bleeding heart Lamprocapnos spectabilis
• Bloodroot Sanguinaria canadensis
Pop in a container filled with colorful plants. You don’t want to set it directly on top of the dormant perennial, but you do want to cover the spot.
