A stitch in time

The 38ft (11.6m) yacht Josephine is a common sight in Port Townsend. In fact, over the past two decades – since Sam Devlin bought her – she’s been home to her owner during the days of the local wooden boat festival, held every September since 1977. Built by the Tacoma Boat Company in 1934 as a salmon troller, Josephine is the second fishing vessel that Sam has converted into a cruiser. Sam Devlin, however, is not a boat restorer – he’s actually a successful builder and designer, who has built 428 boats so far, only four of which were not of his own design.
